favorite photos of famous photographer: carol guzy


My favorite photographer is Carol Guzy. She always wanted to be an artist but she was not supported by her working-class family in the beginning. She started going to nursing school but she found out that it was not her way. After he friends gave her a camera, she  took photography course and fell in love with it. Her photographs have won three Pulitzer Prizes and three Photography of the year awards in National annual contest. 

I think her style is about photography unfortunate people. I like her work because she has a great communication herself and her subject. Moreover, she can also transfer her message to me clearly through her photographs.

1st photo: I almost cry with the boy seeing this photo. I believe this boy come from Heiti under the turmoil and repression period. His eyes are so sad, even without those tears, i can see through the feeling of him. This photographs is so powerful and sad.

2nd photo: I like that i can really see the joyfulness of this couple. They are celebrating the fall of communism. The gesture and facial expression is 'clearly' expressed. In a way, i can't really see there face, but i think i can see the smile through their eyes. 

3rd photo: I like this photo because I can see the intensity and the resolution all in one one photo. The scene of the photo and the boy expression show how bad the situation is. However, those two hands that are touched tightly show some power of strong will of solving the problem. love it

Help me choose please (1)

Dear friends, I am finishing up my class and I need to pick 10-12 photos that I have been taking in Berlin for my final project this Thursday.

I have been taking lots of photos this past 3 weeks and I have a hard time choosing my finals.These are some of the photos I like. However, I still need to refine them into smaller group. I am really appreciate your help if you can pick ~5 photos that you like from this post or even 1 photo if you like any of these would be great help. More comments/advice if you don't like any of these will be really helpful too. I will be really happy to hear them all.

I cannot put too many photos at a time so I will divide this blog post into two.

Oranienburgerstr: very lively street!

I have a theme of warm, sensuous and fishbowl (I'm not really sure of the last one but maybe reflective and symmetric and spherical?)

Here is some of the photo i took,  do you have some photos or a photo that you like out of this? Or if you don't like them, or any of them, or feel that they are boring... feel free to comment ^^ I have hard time photographing interesting photos and capturing exciting moment.

Photo of trees

Dear friends,

Would you please give me some advice/comment/solution to my wonder?

Q.1 Here is about light. Comparing picture one and two, they have very different light in the background. I thought that completely dark background could help to bring out the subject more. I think it work out ok for the first photo. However, if i also give some light to the background, i can see more details ont eh second photo too. Which one would you prefer? 

Q.2 Here is about the third picture, it is my attempt to make the picture blurry. I know this photo is not sharp or anything, but I think the effect come out to be quite nice, the tree looks more lively, maybe ... However, one cannot really say if this photo is any good. Do you have any opinion over this one? Is it even work? do you like it? if you don't like it, the blurry thing bug you or anything, could you please let me know? I would like to know how people think, maybe i would decide if i will want to make it again or not :P

natural or artificial

Hello Friends,

I attached here 4 pictures. They are not really expressed my question that I have been searching for the answer but i do hope smaller solution could add up to the bigger one someday.

1. For the Postcard, my personal preference is the one with the metal frame. I think it make the postcard more interesting. However, Bruce also gave comment that the metal frame is a bit too hard and interfere the audience view. I would like to hear from you all of your thought. Thanks!

2. For the sun flower, i can't really decide which one I like more. I like the sunflower1 in the way that it has the leafs with nice pattern and lovely background. The sunflower2 has less interesting shape, maybe, but i think it is a contrast of artificial white table top... There are good points and bad points of each one...
